Project Title:

Scheduled Monitoring for Water Quality and Aquascape Improvement at Sungai Kabul

​

Project Output:

A local community alerted lecturers from UPM about the worrying water condition of Kabul River. There were foam, strewn rubbish and occasionally the water turns black. Under NRCF, the lecturers, UPM students and local communities conducted water monitoring and released water hyacinth to the river. In raising awareness, the students developed and installed four awareness signboards on freeing the river from rubbish. These activities have alerted perpetrators to be cautious of their activities at Kabul River. As a result, their analysis showed that the river is in good condition and did not turn black.

Project Title:

Friends of Rivers and Oceans Camp (FROC)

​

Project Output:

The project focused on engaging students to raise their environmental knowledge and awareness about various aspects of river care through 3D2N camp. Prior to the camp, facilitators from Guwas Koposizon College, Penampang were trained to conduct water sampling and water quality monitoring. Then, the facilitators transferred their newly acquired knowledge to 20 students from eight schools from five districts in Sabah. The trained facilitators taught the students on basic concept of river conservations as well as bio-indicators, ecology and more through the camp.

Project Title:

River Care: From Talk to Action

​

Project Output:

45 students and 8 teachers/lecturers participated in learning to monitor river by cleaning up a stretch of the Buntong River and taking water sampling to analyse. The project also successfully raise awareness among 90 students through river visit, riverbank cleanup, and building sustainable development diorama.

Location:

Publish a children storytelling book entitled “A River for My Family”

​

Project Title:

Engaging Pre-schooler early on River Care Awareness

​

Project Output:

Realising the importance of nurturing river care awareness among younger children, Asiana Chick Enterprise develop a storytelling children book partially funded by NRCF, that highlights and depicts why it is important to care for our rivers. The book tells a compelling story of a dragonfly losing its home and playground – the river – due to river pollution. At the end of the book is also equipped with simple facts and open-ended questions to the kids about rivers. Upon completed the book production, they proceeded to conduct storytelling session of the book to over 20 children during Earth Day at Taman Tugu. They also participated in storytelling training to 15 teachers on how to engage children in a storytelling session; which at the end of the session, NRCF gifted all participants the book to use at their school.

FRIENDS OF LANGAT RIVER (FOLR)

Project Title:

Alur Ilmu (stream of Langat River), Bangi, Selangor

​

Project Output:

Friends of Langat River is a group of volunteers focusing on rehabilitating Langat River basin. They noticed the stream is suffering from erosion and decided to take action. Under the NRCF grant, FoLR planted 50 bamboo trees at the bank of the stream. They also established Langat River Education Centre near the stream for activities on river rehabilitation awareness.
