River care community grant

PERTUBUHAN KEBAJIKAN AMAL KOMUNITI HILIR PERAK

Location:

Perak River 

Dataran Sungai Perak, Durian Sebatang, Teluk Intan, Perak

Project Title:

Friends of Perak River

​

Project Output:

This project aims to transform Dataran Sungai Perak into a vibrant community space with enhanced facilities for public enjoyment. Kick-started in October 2021, the organisation has undertaken a series of impactful initiatives, including:

​

  • Regular clean-ups, collected approximately 940 kg of rubbish as of January 9, 2022.

  • Beautification efforts such as painted colourful pillars and planted over 100 trees for landscaping.

  • Installing creative signboards to raise environmental awareness.

  • Participating in webinars and forums to foster community engagement.

 

The organisation’s dedication was recognised with an Appreciation Certificate from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage in the Hilir Perak District.

Project Title:

Sayangi Sungai dan Alam Sekitar 

(Love Our River and the Environment)

​

Project Output:

The project’s objective is to raise awareness and instil love and care towards rivers amongst elementary school students. 
 

The project successfully published the “Sungai Sahabatku” book which aims to educate everyone on how to care and maintain the rivers. Teachers and selected students who have shown keen interest through a series of environmental programmes were actively involved in the development of the book from write-up to sketches.

Water Watch Penang

Project Title:

River Monitoring and Conservation Through Community Empowerment

​

Project Output:

This project aims to provide river care awareness and empower local students and community on river monitoring. The organisation successfully conducted River Monitoring and Conservation through Community Empowerment programme at Water Watch Penang (WWP) River Information and Education Centre in Penang. They also conducted an online Care for Our Water & River programme with school and university students. A total of 87 participants were empowered through these activities.

Project Title:

KRT PPR BERINGIN Lake Ranger & Community Garden 

​

Project Output:

The project activity centered around managing a community garden established near the PPR Beringin housing area. The garden grows various types of herbs and vegetables such as Brazilian spinach. Other activities conducted conducted include:

  • Produced Brazillian Spinach chips and eggplant crispy chips. 

  • Collected used cooking oil and bottles from residents, community members and shop owners regularly for recycling.

  • Established  Tunas Jiran Muda Tadika at Tadika Perpaduan A, B, C PPR Beringin

Project Title:

Young Hydrological Scientist (YHS)

​

Project Output:

This project aims to expose Standard 6 primary school students on water quality testing and to increase their awareness on the importance of maintaining river water quality through Young Hydrological Scientist (YHS) programme. A total of 50 students from 3 schools were identified and chosen to participate in the event, at their own respective schools.

Project Title:

River care: In the new norms from school

​

Project Output:

The project aims to increase awareness among students on the importance of clean river and empower students on planning and designing awareness campaign for the environment. The school has conducted various students-based activities including organising digital awareness campaign, online quiz,  newscaster competition as well as decked their corridor with information on river care.

ALLIANCE OF RIVER THREE

Project Title:

PolliNature! 

​

Project Output:

Alliance of River Three has been successfully organising weekly Gotong Royong Education By Action (GREduAction!) for few years. To attract the interests and increase participation from the general population of Taman Melawati, PolliNature! was introduced to create awareness and educate the importance of biodiversity conservation and pollination. Activities being conducted include:

 

  • Launched a PolliNature! webpage, nursery and distributes PolliNature! kits to those participated in their activities. A total of 139 participants signed up for the PolliNature! project.

  • Hosted quarterly online competitions and organise online PolliNature! Exhibition.

  • Collaborated with nearby stalls and food courts to implement proper waste management in the area.

USM Health Campus, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan

Project Title:

Trash for Treasure (T4T)

​

Project Output:

A group of students and lecturers established a CAMPUS Ranger Programme at USM Health Campus to raise awareness about best waste management and reduce wastes end up in the landfill. 


Through the programme, a total of 241 kg of recyclables items from three collection cycles were collected. The programme also extended to the cleaning contractors of the campus, collecting over 1,700 kg recyclables in five collection cycles. 


They also collaborated with two primary schools which GEC provided Training of Trainers (ToT) on the zero-waste concept through the 4R2C approach to 11 teachers and 30 students from both schools. The schools were then provided with 4 units of Smartbin.
